Sunday 13th February

Today's contributor: Jon Copley

En route to South Georgia today, with little to report other than the weather has improved as we move north. There were some bleary eyes at breakfast today, after a night where sleep was occasionally interrupted by the rolling of the ship in the seas.

Otherwise, it's time to start writing the expedition report, which summarises the work we have done. Various members of the team have therefore been busy plotting data, preparing tables, and typing up notes to describe each aspect of our investigations - the geochemistry, microbiology, sonar mapping, ecological observations, samples collected, and data recorded.

"Wow" fact of the day is that the microbiologists have calculated that they have filtered around 3.25 tonnes of seawater during the trip so far - all of which has been carried by hand in containers from the CTD probe hangar to the microbiology lab.
